FreeMind is a Java based Open Source Mind Mapping program.

It may not look as polished as some of its commercial competitors but yet can give you great support on finding and structuring ideas. Furthermore it is available on probably every platform running Java.

If the user decides that the Mind Mapping process is completed but the data should be used in other programs, FreeMind provides an infinite amount of export filters, via XSL its even possible to write custom ones. Just to mention one possibility, with the mm2opml.xsl file, the FreeMind document can be prepared for an import into OmniOutliner.
